Speech and Debate

The Lakeview Middle-High School Speech and Debate team welcomes any students grades 6-12 who have an interest in becoming better public speakers and who enjoy being theatrical.  There are two main divisions in which students can pick individual or team categories to present.  For Speech categories, students will choose a piece and perform that same piece all year.  For Debate, students will work with a small team to discuss bills and laws to argue during the tournaments.  Practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays, during 20 minute appointment increments with a panel of coaches, from late October through February.  Tournaments are after school and a few Saturdays, from November through February, with the State Tournament being in March (only HS students can compete at State and National levels).  We also do a Coffeehouse night where Speech students will perform their pieces for the public and the team uses this as a fundraiser.
